A few of these twenty-sided dice survived the Hellenistic and Roman Periods, and their origin is anywhere from the 2nd century B.C. to the 4th century A.D. These polyhedral dice are a bit of a mystery, with the Metropolitan Museum stating that they can only provide “theories built on clues.”
