Initially, Strawberry Shortcake was just a cartoon that decorated cards sold by American Greetings. Over time, she became something of an icon, with a number of posters, dolls and even television series and films. Strawberry Shortcake dolls were first released in 1979 by Kenner Products.
At that time, this original doll looked like an ordinary rag doll. She had freckles, a bunch of red thread wrapped around her hair, and a strawberry-print beanie. These original dolls are worth US$ 40 on auction sites. In the 1980s, the line took off, and Strawberry Shortcake gained many new friends, including Blueberry Muffin, Lemon Meringue, Orange Blossom and more.
