The Most Valuable Collectors' Items in History

129. Velvet Underground “Scepter Studios” Album

Maker: Polydor
Original Price: $6-$8*
Worth Today: $155,000*

The album of sessions at the Velvet Underground's Scepter studio was a limited edition on the band's label, Polydor. Only 5,000 were released, and the first acetate cuts, from 1966, have sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Velvet Underground's first album was recorded the same year it was cut, and had already been sold at auction for $25,000. Just a few years later, that price quadrupled. Scepter Studio Sessions had nine songs on the acetate cut, although ten were recorded in total. “There She Goes Again” was not included on the album for unspecified reasons.
