1992 pennies might not exactly seem like anything you'd write home about. Printed by the US Mint, of course, these pennies have a $0.01 value that almost always stays that way throughout the decades. However, there are a few 1992 pennies that resell for thousands because of an error.
In the early 1990s, the United States Mint used different dies to produce circulation coins and proof coins. There was an error at the Mint in 1992, and a proof die was used to make the “tail” side of some 1992 coins. As a result, certain spacing on the coin was wrong in the “AM” in America and the initials “FG ”. The base of the Lincoln Memorial is also spaced differently than most 1992 coins. The Philadelphia and Denver Mints produced these error coins, which became very valuable due to the error.
