The Football Association Challenge Cup is an elimination football tournament that takes place every year in England. It is the oldest national football competition in the world and is organized by the FA. The trophy only costs US $ 25 to make, but was sold at auction for US $ 977,000 in September 2020.
The silver trophy was sold by David Gold, co-owner of West Ham United. Gold bought the trophy in 2005 for US$613,000 when he was chairman of Birmingham. At the time, he said he was preserving a piece of history. The silver trophy is certainly historic in nature, as it bears the names of winners since 1872.
