Equestrian paintings, like this one, can be worth US$ 1,000 or more if they are antiques. Scenes of horses and their riders have long been a favorite subject of oil painters, and the value of the painting depends on the fame of the artist and, of course, the quality of the art.
Degas is one of the most famous racehorse painters of all time. He was also one of the first Impressionist painters, although he never considered himself one as he felt his work was too disciplined. Moral of the story: if you have an old painting of horses at home, take it in to be appraised.
