212. Cast Iron Mailbox
Manufacturer: Griswold et al.
Original price: US $ 20-40*
Current value: US $ 50-200*
Most mailboxes are made from a metal composite of galvanized steel, stainless steel, Zintec steel, or aluminum. After the mailbox is made, it is powder coated to meet your recipient's design specifications. There are some mailboxes that are made from wood or plastic, but they are less common as they are not as durable as metal ones.
In 1924, postal officials called for mailboxes to be made from cast iron as they were cheaper to make, more durable, and resistant to rust. Although cast iron boxes have gone out of fashion, you can resell them for US $ 50-200 on eBay as some buyers still want to go back to the days of old.
