Super Mario Bros. became one of America's most beloved games, and an original 1985 test copy of the game sold for US$140,000 at auction. The cartridge was extremely rare, as only a few were sold on the test market. The one sold at auction is thought to be the only sealed cartridge in its condition.
The rare copy was easily identified by the sticker seal. Nintendo sold forty million copies of Super Mario Bros., but only a few thousand of those millions were part of the test launch, which took place in Los Angeles, California, and New York, New York City.
