Sotheby's auction house is known for selling rare and beautiful items, making it the ideal place for anyone looking to sell something valuable (or even strange). At an auction held in June 2013, the Sotheby's audience was shocked to hear the announcement that a rare Persian rug had sold for $33.76 million, setting a world record.
The rug in question was a 17th century hand-woven Clark-Sickle-Leaf carpet with dark blue and red border. Mary Jo Otsea, the auctioneer, said the carpet was “extraordinary and wonderful” and “deserved” the high price it sold for.
