Breyer Horses is a model horse company, and the store hand-paints all of its realistic, natural-looking models. One of the most valuable Breyer horses is the “Alborozo” model, a chestnut sorrel with white stripes. The mold debuted in 2008 at BreyerFest, a Breyer horse convention, as an exclusive, limited edition mold.
After its introduction in 2008, Breyer destroyed the Alborozo mold so that it could never be repeated. When the sculpture was auctioned off, one BreyerFest attendee said the atmosphere felt “electric.” The competition for the sculpture was very intense, but the final number was US $ 22,000. Proceeds from sales were donated to charities such as PATH, 4H East, and Old Friends, among others.
