Thomas Chippendale was an ebony artist in London, and his famous pieces were designed in Neoclassical, English Rococo and mid-Georgian styles. The most identifying features of Chippendale furniture are the legs and feet, as most of the legs are finished in a cabriole, ending in ornamental feet.

Now, Chippendale furniture sells for thousands at auctions, even if it's just Chippendale style and not authentic. This Kentucky office sold for just under half a million dollars. It was sculpted for Captain John Cowan and the sculptor is unknown. The office was the most expensive piece of Kentucky furniture ever sold at auction and the second most expensive piece of furniture in the South as well, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
